Cultural Museum

The cultural museum is a presentation of Kerala’s rich dance and cultural history in visual form. Perhaps the only one of its kind in Kerala state, it houses a photographic and audio representation of various art forms with a descriptive history. Each major dance form has its own space with a sculpted dancer with pointers showing each item of his/her intricate make up. A brief history of the dance form is also available. Beside the sculpture, one can view a video of the particular dance form showcased in English, French and German.

One can also see a miniaturized Kerala Village representative of the pre 1930’s period, old artefacts and articles of daily use, original representations of the water wheel, the different types of the farmers’ village hat made of Palmyra and rich visual representations of Kerala’s culture. Interestingly you would also find paintings dating back to the late 19th century in the museum.

Most interestingly, in the middle of the entire Museum is placed a handloom weaving machine, an integral item of Kerala’s handicraft industry, used to make sarees and other handloom products.
